Went to K and J's wedding last Saturday. It was exquisite. They are masters of detail and ambience. The ceremony was nice and short at Stanford Memorial Church and it was an easy drive to Ladera Oaks in Portola Valley.
The guests were all asked to trace their hands on construction paper and sign their names. Most couples traced their hands horizontally--one from each side so that the fingers touched. In a spurt of creativity, I traced my hand inside The Serene One's. I colored mine a light green (ha ha) and the space between my hand and The Serene One's a dark green.
CollectorDave, not to be outdone, did a three-dimensional rendering of his and Madame A's hands. Wow.
The placecards were nifty rocks with our names on one side and the table number on the other. I was talking to Jeff while he juggled a cocktail, an tiny potato canape and his dance shoes.
"Jeff, go fetch your rock and set your shoes down"
"What? What's the rock for?"
"It has your table number on it. Or maybe it's to hurl at disreputable guests"
The table centerpiece was a glass vase with a tall white candle and rocks around the bottom. Very large street address numbers attached to the vase indicated your table. It was cool.
I was hoping to find some sort of wedding card with gears meshing, as they are both PhDs in Mechanical Engineering. However, it's not what most people think is romantic. I had to settle for a tall blonde wedding couple looking at green hills.

Creative hand tracing, reminds me of us when we went to your student-teacher-parents meeting.
Welcome to Blogger! I'm sorry I didn't see your guest book entry! We were boring and did the traditional. Although I did stand in for someone else's girlfriend's hand too!
