Kitchen Adventures and Vegetable Wash

I embarked on another multi-hour cooking odyssey yesterday with Serene Jr. supervising. Not because I am a gourmet chef mind you. I just haven't gotten the hang of keeping the little guy happy and getting dinner on the table. Usually I wait until The Serene One is home before attempting dinner but he had to work late.

Things went pretty smoothly overall. Sort of. Highlights:

- Kept saving veggie scraps for Cupcake to eat and then realizing there was no Cupcake
- Dumped all the veggie scraps in the trash before remembering that I am now segregating food waste. Had to dig them out of the trash
- Serene Jr. was not happy to be left out of the action. I finally put him in the bouncer at the edge of the kitchen and he was content to watch wide-eyed.
- Gathered a bunch of dirty utensils and dropped them into the dishwasher before realizing that everything in the washer was clean. Argh!

I also used my new "Fit" fruit and vegetable wash. After reading that water alone will not take off most pesticides, I bought a little spray bottle of veggie wash to try out. You can make your own, but I just wasn't motivated enough. Verdict: scarily effective!

The white deposits on the ends of green onions have always bugged me. I can never get them out with just water. Well, a little bit of rubbing with the veggie wash and they were pristine!! Just watch, next week they'll release a news bulletin about veggie wash being carcinogenic.
