So You Think You Can Dance: Final Four

Here's my take on tonight's performances:

Courtney and Twitch did a nice job on the hip-hop. It was fun, and they got into character well. Unfortunately, this was also the first Tabitha and Napoleon piece that seemed a bit too long for me. Nigel talked about the energy going down, so not sure if it's the exhausted dancers or the actual length of the piece that made me feel that way.

I very much enjoyed Wade Robson's piece to "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room." Katee and Joshua are a great pair and I'm glad they got a beautiful piece to bow out with. John Mayer is very popular this year for dance numbers. That Mia Michael's bed piece was a Mayer song, and Kristi and Mark's rumba on Dancing with the Stars was also to John Mayer.

I did not like Tyce's Broadway routine for Katee and Courtney. Not sure why the final girls routines always fall short. The contemporary fox routine last year was weird. I really disliked the "Big Spender" Broadway routine for Heidi and Donyelle two years ago where they got punk'd by makeup with those super long eyelashes. Wasn't wild about tonight's costumes and the parasols were not worth the trouble.

The Russian folk dance number was really fun! I felt for Joshua and Twitch at the end. They looked completely done in. Something about the costumes didn't seem right to me. I'm not sure what. Too baggy? Boots not tall enough? I'm disappointed they chose the Nutcracker music. It seemed like a good opportunity to introduce a new song to the public.

Katee and Twitch's Foxtrot was pleasant. Twitch had some awkward moments. I was distracted by the swirling camera during the big lift:(

The jive was a mess. I had to stop watching. I'm glad Nigel halted the love fest. I can't blame Joshua and Courtney though. The demo couple didn't have the traditional ballroom style in the clip they showed. You know, the red bull fueled, knee busting bounce.

Finally, the Mia Michaels number, or as Nigel called it "the Scottish Olympic" piece. Loved Courtney's dress and the guys in kilts. Can't remember the term for overlapping and dissonant music. Certainly got my attention. The camera switching really, really bugged me. I didn't catch the problem with Courtney's leg lift until Mary mentioned it. I watched the number again to see how I missed that. The camera angles and cutting definitely affected my ability to see it clearly.

I'm so sad the season is at a end!! It has been great fun. I can't wait to find out who won!

Knowing that we'll get to see them one more time in September makes me feel a bit less sad that this season is ending. I've really liked the dancers.
