Chihuly at the De Young

There is a huge Dale Chihuly exhibit in town at the De Young museum. I've written before about how fascinated The Serene One and I are with his work. Since my folks are fans too, we all took a field trip up to San Francisco yesterday. It was awesome.

My favorites were:

The "Baskets" section that displayed Chihuly's work directly with the Native American inspiration for the work.

The antique boats filled with glass. One was filled with swirly pieces and the other was filled with giant glass balls.
What I call the "boat of marbles"

The Persian Ceiling was a bit disorienting because it feels like you are looking up into the ocean. At the entrance of the room:

If you have a few spare hours, head on up there. The photos that my dad took are awesome, but the live experience is a step above. The exhibition ends on Sept 28th.

Your dad took some excellent pictures. Looks like a neat exhibit. Some of the stuff reminds me of things I saw when I was passing through Italy last year.

Cynthia: Thanks! I'll pass your compliment on to my dad. I would love to go to the glass island near Venice. Is it Murano? Or is that the lace one. Anyway, you probably know what I mean

I didn't go to the glass island, but I believe that Murano is big in glass art. I did go to a glass-blowing factory in Venice though. If you go to IndulgeThyself.com and search for "glass art" you'll see my account of my experience at the factory. And they also have a big glass art factory in Seattle too, which is closer!
