Triathlon Dinner

A few weekends ago, The Serene One and I headed up to his race club's annual awards dinner. This is his second year completing the Challenge Series so he got a cool Northface vest with the team logo on it.

It was a very inspiring event. Lots of lean, fit people I call "greyhoundish." I felt very slug-like after hearing how many triathlons our tablemates had completed. There were plenty of war stories told. It made me think of a video that I saw once that The Serene One used to describe what the swim stage of the triathlon is like. I saw him getting kicked in the head, but I didn't really understand the splashing and confusion that accompanied it until I saw this:

That's really funny! I used to think I was the only one that got swam over since I'm slow. Then during the Hawaii IM last year they described the swim as "wrestling in the water" which made me realize every single person out there feels that way!!

Maybe because I'm not a triathlete, but I don't get why you would want to get beat up for fun. After all, I get beat up in enough work meetings during the week.... ;-)
