Dance Dance Redemption

Ladies' Star

Last night was another neon wig night. The dance group I'm in had a performance at 10pm. This time, I am happy to say, went a lot better than last time.

Since I was pretty nervous about performing the same number again, I did some further preparation:

- My spatial sense is not great when I transfer from rehearsal space to performance space, so I made a little chart of the first figure.

I realize now that this looks a bit like a roundabout in the UK. The line is roughly my path and the letters are my partners. For example, I start the figure with E and switch partners in the circle, then ray out with A, come back in and ray out with K.

I practiced by myself with the chart and then double checked with all my partners that I got it right before the performance.

- There are two arm windmills in this piece, which I kept screwing up. I kept doing the backstroke instead of the freestyle. So, all week in my cube and whenever I had a free moment, I cadenced with my feet and freestyled with my arms. Note to self: your co-workers can see your arms swinging over the cubicle wall.

- Most importantly, I washed my hands a lot and drank Emergen-C after four people in our troupe got sick!

Thanks for your dedication! It was indeed a great show.

I bought another box of Emergen-C today. Just in case.

Such complex dance routines. Someday, dancers may need personal GPS guidance systems ( with voice and vectors indicating direction of body, head, eyes, arms and legs ).

Just don't dance around the rotary backwards like I once did in the UK....
