Oreo and Cupcake are getting a little rounder these days.Members of my rat newsgroup have said that it's good to maintain a certain level of "squish" with rats. This is because rats instantly lose weight when they're sick. The theory is that maintaining a weight buffer for your rats will prevent illness from wiping them out right away. Let me tell you, our girls are well on their way to squishiness.
We feed them healthy foods. Whole grain cereal, teaspoons of jamba juice and veggie lab blocks. Unfortunately, they seem to have a natural inclination for human junk food. I guess this is not a surprise. Once a rat, always a rat.
Last week, we bought Fruit Flavored Mineral Chews for the girls:
"Nutriphase Mineral Chews are a long lasting, healthy mineral source for your small pet. They are a tasty alternative to wood chews and are a fun playtime activity...Watch as your pet nibbles and gnaws to fulfill the instinctive need to chew."
Who writes pet product copy? I love it. It's almost as good as the copy on our bottle of Squeaky Clean Critter Shampoo.
Anyway, Oreo and Cupcake seized the chews, carried them back into the cage. The next day, we peeked into the cage, and this what we saw:

On the bottom is the "before" chew toy and on the top is the "after" chewtoy. What puzzles me is that the sprinkles are fake. They are made of the same material as the rest of the stick.
I looked at the list of ingredients:
Ground sea shell, ground limestone, tapioca starch binder, food coloring, fruit flavors, sugar
Yum.
Not!

It's hilarious that they chewed off the sprinkles.
Are you going to try to add a little squishiness also? haha
A little bit chubby is cuter.
Chubby rats do seem cute (as far as rats go....) Chubby dogs can be cute but are so unhealthy that all our dogs have always been subjected to constant dieting.
