Roomies

Our babies are settling in nicely. The Serene One has slipped a few times and called Cupcake by other names: Cookie and Coconut. The foster coordinator said that their names make her very hungry.

I exchanged more emails with her and discovered that our girls are not sisters! Originally, we were going to get Cupcake and a mink (silvery-blue) hooded girl. They were sisters and fostered by a woman in Sacramento. There was a mixup at the adoption event and the mink hooded girl went home with someone else. Instead, we brought home our fuzzy Oreo.

Oreo's birthday is July 7th. She was raised in the noisy household of the foster coordinator with 14 siblings, dogs, cats and children. Cupcake was raised in a quiet household and her birthday is unknown. She is a real survivor. She was born at the Petaluma rescue shelter, after her mother was saved from appalling conditions. Unfortunately, the car that was supposed to transport mom, babies and other rats to foster homes overheated in Martinez in 100+ degree weather. Cupcake's mom, along with ten other rats, perished from the extreme conditions.

I was very sad to hear all of this and also glad that both Oreo and Cupcake have a new home with us where they will be spoiled to no end. They may not be sisters, but seem to be rooming together just fine. The Serene One caught them napping in their hammock "cop style." That is, nose to tail, just like cops chatting together so no one can sneak up on them.

Can't wait to see them in the Wodent Wheel! And maybe that big yellow running ball, although we should keep that away from Q.
