I had a "through the looking glass" experience yesterday when I met Chris Saul for drinks. I've been reading his Dubai-based blog now for several years and upon reading this post was moved to action.
It was disorienting to meet Chris for the first time, yet know about his new apartment and that he had problems with the RFID tags that Heathrow put on his luggage. It's like skipping the first few hours of fact gathering in an acquaintanceship but still not knowing if your new friend is a complete loon.
He isn't, by the way. At least as far as I could tell! It was fun to talk to him and his coworker R, who was in from the UK.
Mr. Saul Sr. has a blog too. Chris talked about how it was neat to see his dad's thoughts in writing. I feel the same way. My mom and I end up on the phone a lot, but my dad sometimes gets annoyed listening to shopping discussions. He'll hang up his receiver when he senses a dangerous turn towards sartorial matters. Blogging is an extra way for me and my dad to communicate. He's one of my most dedicated commenteers! Now if I could get him to start a daily photo blog....
