Tea, Shopping, Tea

The Serene One and I had a wonderful, lazy afternoon together in San Jose this weekend. We had lunch at the Straits Cafe at Santana Row. We did a tapas style lunch and munched on tiny samosas, Indian flatbread and chicken skewers. Of course, because it was super cold, I had to order some Earl Grey. They have really fun dishware:
The rice and soup bowls are even more dramatic because the raised lip is huge.

We then did part 4 of Mission: Upgrade The Serene One's Wardrobe. His new company is a trifle more formal than his last one. Although motivated, he has a very low tolerance for shopping. We're doing these skirmishes in 20 min chunks at a time.

I cannot believe how much easier it is to shop for guys. We were in Banana Republic and there were two kinds of chinos: regular and relaxed. None of this girly nonsense where there are six different styles plus long, regular short.

The guy department has numbers. Waist and inseam. Perfect. That way you don't have to remember which size you are at which store. We got a nice pair of grey slacks and a grey knitted pullover for The Serene One.

While he was off getting his watch battery changed, I wandered over to the Nike Women store. I love that place. I have vowed not to get anything new from there until I have a demonstrable cardio workout history this year.

We finished the afternoon up with tea at Lisa's Tea Treasures. It was just as lovely as last time. I forgot to get a shot of my Lemon-Mint Green tea, so I will finish this post up with a photo of the square-bottomed, round topped tea cup I got a few months ago:

one of my guy friends recently asked me to try to explain women's sizing. i think it took half a page (in an email) and he still doesn't really get it. men's sizes are soooo much easier. :-P

Sounds fun! I went to a tea party over the holidays where the hostess had a dozen completely unique tea cups out...it was really lovely and your picture reminded me of that.

Even if women's sizes were done more logically like men's sizes, it would still be difficult.

Inseam, waist, hip, cut (loose, relaxed, flared, boot, etc.).

Shirts should definitely be done more like men's, though. Arm length, neck length (of course, then we'd have women worrying about how fat their necks were), and DEFINITELY breast and waist measurements. I realize that, according to all the shows, getting a button up fitted is really easy, but it just doesn't happen that way. And having all my shirts fit over my bosom means they are tented over my waist enough that I could hide a watermelon or three!

How imaginative, a cup on a slanted saucer.

Coincidentally, Vic bought a bunch of stuff for me at Banana Republic to spice up my wardrobe, which is in complete disrepair after 3 years working from home in my garage office.

I was the best-dressed of the team and was pleased until I got the bill...
