Project Runway Does Hats

Now is the time on my blog where I draw really terribly. See past exhibit: my alligator drawing.

I've been enjoying this season of Project Runway. This past week, the competitors were given a Philip Treacy hat and told to design an outfit to go with it. For whatever weird reason, I felt inspired to "design" dresses for two hats from the collection. In both cases, I loved the hat and was hoping for more literal translations than what the designers created.

First, you need to go here to look at the hat inspirations and the original designs. I chose the hats that competitors Peach and Kristin had. I'm telling you this because I fear you may not be able to identify the hats as I drew them.

For Kristin's orchid hat, I immediately thought of a white dress (stiff silk? I'm terrible with fabric types. Lady M needs to chime in here) with painted pink stripes.

For Peach's black and white galaxy hat, I dreamed up a swirl in huge form. So here is my black strapless dress with a big fat chunky belt and a fade to white on the bottom. Not sure if I want the swirl to be beads or just lots of finely gathered fabric. I added green shoes.

What happened to her arms? Arms seem to be a weak point for me. Reference my marmot drawing from earlier this year.

I definitely like your ideas better than the ones Peach and Kristin came up with!
