$15.99 for a rat!! And the rats were adolescents! Since they typically only have a 2 year life span, $16 is a hefty price to pay for a rat that is already lived a quarter of its time on earth.
I remember buying Captain Barbossa at another (nameless big box) store. She was $2.50. I was forced to sign a "good pet owner" agreement before they let me take her home. I noticed that the tatooed guy standing behind me in line reading Reptile Magazine did not have to sign one when he bought his rat.
I'm guessing PetSmart has priced their rats this way to ensure that the animals are being sold as pets and not for nefarious purposes. I must say, it is tempting to purchase $2.50 baby rats and resell them to PetSmart at a higher price. Except, I am a sucker for adorable fuzzballs
and would never be able to sell them.
