Last month on vacation, The Serene One finished off "The Historian" by Elizabeth Kostova and then purloined my book "The Big Over Easy" by Jasper Fforde (good book! 4 stars). He finished it in short order. Desperate for something else to read, he grabbed my book club book, Ian Sansom's "The Case of the Missing Books." Apparently, the adventures of a librarian in North Ireland left something to be desired.
Here was our conversation after he read a few chapters:
The Serene One: Do you have anything else to read?
Me: Yeah. I've got a Nancy Drew mystery novel, vol 2 of Lois McMaster Bujold's "The Sharing Knife" and "Princess Academy." Will any of those work for you?
The Serene One: Silence.
Me: Ummm, the librarian book gets better.
The Serene One: Flips page.
In a fit of mercy the next day, I bought him a Time magazine to read.
