Ltg Llama, much to her boyfriend's disgust, owns a "Joss Whedon is My Master" t-shirt. Joss created not only the TV series Firefly but also Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. In my first visit down to see Ltg Llama in years, we ended up watching an episode of Firefly together.
Firefly (which I riffed on earlier) has now been off the air for several years. It keeps popping up in unexpected places though.
This week at work, I found out there is an NPI project called Firefly. I thought it was too good to be true for the project to be named after the TV show, but then I saw an internal website with the trademark burning letters. Geeks unite!
A few weeks ago, I was admiring J's silver sparkle nail polish. I'd never seen her with nail polish before, and I commented on it. She said that she had been hired to teach dance at a sci-fi event and thought the polish was in the spirit of things. Had I ever heard of this show called "Firefly?"
J had never heard of it before, but a fan group called the Browncoats were throwing a ball. Included in the event: a lesson on waltz as well as a recreation of the dance from the episode Shindig. Yes, the episode with the beautiful pink dress. J watched the episode to learn the dance and is now hooked.
I looked up the event and found a decadent weekend in San Francisco with visits to Chinatown, a fancy dress ball and a screening of the movie, Serenity. Wow!!
In addition to this annual event, the SF Browncoats meet the second Saturday of every month. The Silicon Valley Browncoats meet the first Saturday of every month.

It would be so cool to go to a Browncoat ball!
How awesome! I do love that show. This morning at the gym I was watching an old ep of Buffy (the one where they find out about Oz). So well done. So fun to watch. Scary without being terrifying. I hope Joss does justice to the WonderWoman movie!
