Frequent Squeaking

You wouldn't know it by looking at them (in The Serene One's A's baseball hat), but Oreo and Cupcake are not getting along. Last night, there was a considerable amount of discord in the rat cage. Lots of tussling, squeaking and sitting on top of each other. We finally had to separate them.

First Oreo came out on the kitchen table while I worked on the computer. Then we put her back, there was more squeaking, then we took Cupcake out.

I've never had two rats at the same time before. I'm guessing this is normal. If I had to spend 24 hrs a day with someone I'm sure I would get sick of them. There were no missing chunks of fur this morning after a night all alone together.

Here's to roommate harmony.

Woo,
May have to separate them into two cages for a day or two. Then they might appreciate each other when you put them back together.

My only 2 experiences having 2 pets have not been good. My 2 siberian dwarf hamsters growing up did not like each other at all - lots of fighting in the cage. My 2 dogs now are also not friends by any means - but most days they tolerate each other. I think the picture of 2 pets cozied up together in the shared pet bed doesn't happen very often...

According to the experts at "Tom & Jerry", the best way to get the rats to cooperate is to introduce a common enemy, i.e. a cat.

This may result in the detonation of fire crackers, the smashing of dishes, and the hurling of hot irons, etc. Of course, all the mayhem will be blaimed on the poor cat, but at least the rats will be getting along. Or, does that only work for mice?

That was such a funny comment from mo. Ancient and present rulers who had just united a nation used that tactic too. May I add the dropping of anvils; cutting circular hole on the floor were one stood; springing of mouse traps; and golf clubs that will bent into the shape of the recipients when you hit them; in "Tom and Jerry" too.
