I showed Serene Jr a few episodes of the television show. Here was our conversation a little while after:
SJ: Mama? I want a dragon.I'm glad he has it all figured out.
Me: Oh really?
SJ: I want two of them. A real one and toy one.
Me: Dragons are really big. I don't think one will fit in our house.
SJ: You can back the cars out and he can live in the garage.
Me: I guess he can curl his tail around so we can close the garage door. What is he going to eat?
SJ: He can eat the grass.
A few days later I was packing for a business trip and I had for clothes laid out on the bed. I turned around and all of my socks were gone. After some investigation, I discovered a giant pile of socks in Serene Jr's room. His exclamation? He was a baby dragon and the socks were a pile of fish for him to eat. We spent a while throwing socks around and pretending to eat them. This ended when I found out that he had raided my husband's dirty socks.
I tweeted about this and Tall K wrote this in response:
give a dragon a fish, he'll eat for a day. Teach a dragon to fish & you'll have cold feet for weeksIn the wee hours of the morning as I was leaving for the airport I sketched out a little drawing of a fish for him. It's become a tradition for me to draw something for him before I travel. I have the fondest memories of all the little comics strips that my dad drew for me. I am hoping to pass that down to the next generation.
