The New Modern Ethic Saves a Life

I'm a little behind. It wasn't until yesterday that I found out that the president had called for 9/11 to be a day of service. Alas, too late. I've written before about Meg Cabot's moving first-person account of the event.

I was fortunate to read Elisa Camahort Page's 9/11 story today. Definitely worth a read. My favorite part was this:

As an interesting side note, you may have heard the story of the WTC investment firm CEO who was late to work that day to take his daughter to her first day of kindergarten? Nearly his whole company was wiped out, while he survived. As it runs out, my CEO was supposed to be meeting with him at his office in the WTC that morning. The guy called him to move it to the next day, because of the whole kindergarten thing. So, in fact, my CEO would have been right there, but for the new modern ethic that allows dads to take time off for their kids too.
There are so many near misses on that day. My coworker's husband was in NYC for a meeting in the WTC that morning. He was delayed in the subway. It saved his life.

My friend's boyfriend, now husband, was saved because he stayed up late the night before watching the Giants game in overtime.

Hi Mayberry,

Wow! I bet your friend and her husband must be rabid Giants fans now, if they weren't before:)
