The Serene One and I saw David Hyde Pierce on Broadway two years ago in Spamalot. He was brilliant. He's tremendously talented in physical comedy and I hadn't realized it from the episodes of Frasier that I watched. Luckily, the writers of Frasier recognized his abilites.
Check out this wordless episode segment on television. It's 6 minutes, but totally worth it. You'll want to watch it with sound though. There's a nice soundtrack (a la Buffy's Hush slide show):

Excellent, now you are an official promoter for Niles. I kept thinking that near the ending, when he opened the door, the guess is arriving.
