Almost every building at work has signs in the hallways and elevator areas that read: "Do not leave any equipment here! This is not a staging area!"
No one ever pays attention to the signs. The labs are usually stuffed to capacity, so pallets of equipment are left wherever there is room. Some poor facilities person gets to tape little "Warning: this object will be removed in 2 weeks" signs on all the junk. However, since there are so many of these little signs everywhere, they have blended into the environment for most people.
I was surprised the other day when I found a completely empty hallway. This was taped on the wall:

Grammar aside, the sign seems to work. Apparently, all you need is a good reason and people will be tidy.
