Rugby and the ER

The Serene One and I headed down to San Luis Obispo last weekend for his annual Rugby Alumni Reunion. Here's an excerpt from the weekend:

Doc: Hi, I'm Dr. McDonnell. Can you tell me how you injured yourself?

The Serene One: I got tackled wrong playing rugby. My shoulder got driven into the ground.

Doc: Did you lose consciousness?

TSO: No.

Doc: Does it hurt here?

TSO: No.

Doc: Does it hurt here?

TSO: No.

Doc: Does it hurt here?

TSO: YES.

Doc: Put your thumb and pinky together. Don't let me pull through it.

Doctor cannot pull through

Doc: Okay, I'll go look at your x-rays and be right back.

The diagnosis? A separated shoulder. We're looking at surgery in the near future. This last week has been one filled with advil, vicodin, ice packs and sleepless nights. Weirdly enough, we found this novelty ice bag late that evening down the street at the Apple Farm Gift Shop. It's been the perfect size for sitting on his shoulder.

On the plus side, Oreo and Cupcake have enjoyed riding in The Serene One's sling and nibbling on the shoulder strap.

We need to see a picture of the rats in the sling.

I echo the need for pictures Oreo and Cupcake riding in the sling.
This may even qualify for Funniest Home Video.

I'm so sorry to hear that. :( The triathlon world will miss him for a while. And I might check out that ice bag sometime...it looks much more functional than the frozen corn that I use!

Lara - thanks for the kind wishes!

Lady M and Bob - Unfortunately, I didn't get a good shot. I'll post what I've got

Brenda - I highly recommend the mini ice bag. The recirculating ice water pump is pretty impressive too.
