The Year of the Tiger

As usual, I'm running a little late on my holiday planning. Yesterday, I thought it might be a good idea to get a book related to the new year to share with Serene Jr.

A quick trip to Borders revealed no Lunar New Year books whatsoever. Very disappointing. Barnes and Noble had a nice little display. Unfortunately, all of the books were about the actual holiday--what you eat, do and wear. There were no books about the origin of the Chinese zodiac. Bummer. I ended up ordering Ed Young's book Cat and Rat: The Legend of the Chinese Zodiac. It's specifically around the Chinese zodiac. I know the Vietnemese zodiac swaps out the rabbit for the cat. Not sure what other amalgamations there are out there.

Iif you're interested in the story, you can read it here.

Since the lunar cycle does not match up with the solar year, there are leap months. These occur roughly 7 times every 19 years.

Happy New Year to you! I'm surprised that Borders doesn't have any books on the Chinese zodiac. They seem to have everything.
