Can't Stop The Serenity

The Serene One and I went to see "Serenity" on the big screen this weekend. It was so fun to see all the details that we miss on DVD: patterns on mugs, spaceship detail and the little skeletons on Reaver ships. There were a lot of audience members with cool Firefly t-shirts and quite a few homemade Jayne hats.

There are events being held all over the world under the title: "Can't Stop The Serenity." They are in honor of the tv show/movie creator, Joss Whedon (his birthday) and his favorite charity, Equality Now. I was touched and impressed by this thoughtful and funny speech he gave about creating strong female characters (like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and River Tam).

Have a listen. Celebrate the cool, strong chicks in your life and the guys that love them.

"Gender balance and gender equality--both in terms of numbers at all levels of the labor force, and in life in all its dimensions--benefit all."

I could try to make you a knitted hat to wear to the next one of these things but it might not look as cool as that one.
